Appreciation of Sponsors by NGO Bildungswerk Westafrika
May 31st, 2009
Dear friends,
dear sponsors,
in 2008 Mrs. Toda had to face many difficulties while working on the construction site of the secondary school “Union” of Asohouè Cada. The year had started out with an energy crises which was followed by a severe food shortage and ended with the world wide economic breakdown. As was mentioned by the German president Horst Köhler this crises hit the African continent far more severely than what we experienced in Europe. We all are suffering a very difficult time full of insecurities. May be this offers an insight into what is going on in Africa. Mrs. Toda opens up a window into these problems with her work report. (Link: projects – reports and diary)
Nevertheless we managed to almost finish the construction of the secondary school. The pictures on the link: “current project” give proof that the new buildings are already being used and that the students are happy about the good looking classrooms. At present Mrs. Toda is staying in Germany as to earn her own living for the next construction period doing small jobs. She is also advertising her new project, the elementary school of Zèbè in the Republic of Benin. After her return to Benin the buildings of the old project, the secondary school “Union”, will be painted and the school complex will be officially opened.
As president of the Bildungswerk Westafrika e.V. I thank you for your constant support, which has created important changes despite all difficulties and has touched many lives of young people. I hope that you will remain bonded with us in the months to come.

Astrid Toda thanks the following sponsors for their special support of her Work in Benin
1. Mr. Kobayashi of NEIC, Düsseldorf, has donated very bright solar lanterns. These are used in the rural areas to facilitate the studies of the children at night areas where there is no electricity, where batteries are costly, and where petrol lanterns are always a source of fire when young ones crowd together.
